The town of Dunedin on New Zealand’s South Island, located on the Otago Harbour, is a goldmine of fresh fish and seafood. Enjoy seafood chowder and classic fish and chips served up at Plato on the waterfront, or check out the sophisticated range of cafés and restaurants offering plenty of exceptional dining options beyond seafood. These are a few to consider.

Modern New Zealand cuisine is the focus at No. 7 Balmac, located on Maori Hill. Multiple awards have been earned for the menu, with breakfast, lunch and dinner served daily. Breakfast specialties include a homemade crumpet, served with caramelized banana, black currants, vanilla butter, streaky bacon and whipped mascarpone. For dinner, try the pepper-crusted wild Fjordland venison loin, or the wood-fired, orange-and-thyme-brined free-range chicken.

For decadent Italian fare, head straight to Etrusco at the Savoy. Family run for more than 20 years, the pizza and pasta dishes are local favorites. Along with a rotating selection of fresh ravioli concoctions, you can choose from traditional favorites such as tonno, piccanti, puttanesca and a delectable cinghiale o cervo — a wild boar or wild venison sauce served over farfalle pasta. Dessert choices include a selection of cakes and gelato.

For a powerful Scottish vibe and great eats, head to Scotia on Stuart Street. Casual and cozy, the menu offers traditional Scottish haggis with a side of oatcakes; rump of lamb; duck breast; and a sensational pumpkin orzo pasta with smoked tomato, parmesan, corn and Greek yogurt. Save room for a serving of treacle crème brulee with berry sorbet for dessert.

Downtown at Two Chefs Bistro, diners are engulfed in a Parisian café setting, including a bar topped with marble, antique mirrors and banquettes covered in burgundy leather. Try the dinner menu, with mains that include twice-baked goats curd soufflé, roasted venison loin and chargrilled sirloin steak accompanied by French fries and café de Paris butter.

Fairfield by Marriott Phnom Penh Review

Phnom Penh as we imagined it stretches beneath us: a picturesque, low-rise mix of Southeast Asian and French Colonial styles. When the inhabitants of those buildings look back at us here in the Fairfield by Marriott hotel in Chip Mong Tower, they see the future.

Amansara Review

It was more than a car journey; it was a transition between worlds. At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
