Waterfalls to See in Asia

The Kuang Si Falls. Luang Prabang. Laos

Feature

While Asia may not come to mind when considering the great waterfalls of the world, such as Victoria Falls in Africa, Iguazu Falls, in South America, and Niagara Falls in North America, the continent is not to be outdone.

Kuang Si Falls

This Laos waterfall is three levels, beginning with shallow pools that fall into separate bodies before arriving at the 60-meter main drop. The falls often act as a side attraction for tourists visiting Luang Prabang. This well-maintained waterfall empties into a turquoise pool visible on walkways and from facilities.

Jog Falls

The Jog Falls are the second-highest falls in India. The falls are segmented most of the time, but, depending on the time of the year and the amount of recent rainfall, the waterfall becomes a plunge waterfall, where water picks up the pace and careens over the ledge.

The falls are a major tourist attraction in India and rank as the 13th waterfall in the world, according to the waterfall database.

Ryuzu Falls

The Ryuzu Falls name translates to “Dragon Head” due to the shape and flow of the two falls that make up the formation. Located in Japan, the falls make their way into lakes Yunoko and Chuzenji.

Hogenakkal Falls

Another set of falls sometimes referred to as the “Niagara Falls of India” actually looks much more akin to Iguazu Falls. The falls offer full viewing amenities including boat rides.

The falls are projected as a major tourist attraction in India and are home to some of the oldest carbonatite rocks in Asia.

Chitrakote Falls

The widest falls in India only boast a drop of about 29 meters. The falls are especially incredible to view during monsoon season, when the spread and force of the falls are emboldened. During this time, it’s these falls that are often called the “Niagara Falls of India.”
