Lovers of art and travel should keep Vacation With an Artist in mind. VAWAA, an innovative digital startup, combines the art world with hospitality and learning, creating gateways offering rich, cultural immersions. Offering more than 100 unique programs in 27 countries, Vacation With an Artist gives travelers personalized and experiential itineraries to explore, learn and create. Guests can take part in creating ceramics in Greece, learn calligraphy in Japan and quilting in Alabama. Travel the world while learning from renowned artists around the world.
In June, VAWAA launched a new experience in Guadalajara, Mexico: ceramics with Camila Apaez, the founder of Ila Ceramics. Guadalajara is the hub of a longstanding pottery tradition where Camila Apaez perfected her skills throughout the years. She started with wheel throwing and evolved her practice to encompass manual sculpture, functional pieces and experimental arts.
As part of the Vacation With an Artist experience, guests work on different ceramics pieces by designing, sculpting, firing and glazing their own handmade pieces. Travelers can also add additional programming, such as a guided trip to Tonalá or Tlaquepaque to explore other local studios, museums and more.
This itinerary is VAWAA’s fifth experiential offering in Mexico, others include Zapotec-style weaving in Oaxaca, experimental ceramics in Umecuaro, stone sculpting and woodwork in Zacualpan de Ampilpas and landscape photography in Parras del la Fuente.
