Via a partnership with Julien’s Auctions, Cunard offers an exclusive auction exhibition during the Queen Mary 2 trans-Atlantic crossing, New York City to Southampton, Sept. 15–22.

The exhibition is in advance of a Julien’s Auctions’ sports memorabilia auction Nov. 14, at the Standard Oil Building in Beverly Hills, featuring 350 pieces collected over three decades. Cruisers have the exclusive opportunity to bid on choice items due to appear at the auction.

“Julien’s Auctions brings exclusive events to our guests onboard furthering our mission of creating lasting memories for our passengers,” said Josh Leibowitz, senior vice president, Cunard North America. “It will be a thrill for Queen Mary 2 passengers to see up close famed sports memorabilia from the greats such as Babe Ruth and Muhammad Ali.”

Auction highlights include a Brooklyn Dodgers Babe Ruth uniform, a baseball signed by Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe, baseballs signed by Babe Ruth, Muhammad Ali boxing shorts and more.

“These items represent the dreams and ambitions of the sportsmen who captured the hearts of millions,” said Brett Hughes, managing director, global sports, Julien’s Auctions. “To own any of these items will doubtless be a dream come true for the lucky buyers. For true fans, the value of each lot is beyond price and will become a family heirloom.”

Parkway Bakery & Tavern Review

My husband, friends and I visited Parkway Bakery & Tavern on a recent trip to New Orleans. The restaurant is one of the most well-known for the city’s signature sandwich, the po’ boy. The restaurant doesn’t take reservations, so we arrived close to when it opened and braved the already-long line.

Celebrating the Best of Leisure Travel

WELCOME TO THE EIGHTH ANNUAL Leisure Lifestyle Issue, celebrating the best in leisure travel. This year is a bit different because many of us haven’t traveled as we have in the past, but instead of writing about what we’ve missed in 2020, I’m looking forward to what will be possible in the rest of the year and beyond.

Athens: A city that charms its guests and stirs their emotions

The city took its name from Athena, goddess of wisdom, strategy and war, and protector of the city. The financial, political and administrative center of the country and an all-powerful city-state in antiquity, Athens is a major center of culture. A visit to the first-ever museum dedicated to Byzantium, a stroll around the National Garden and a trip to the Olympeion archaeological site will take you back through time.

WHAT A YEAR ... AND IT’S ONLY JUNE (or already June, depending on how you look at it). “Leisure lifestyle” may seem like an oxymoron in 2020, but as an optimist and travel enthusiast, I’m still determined to live the rest of this year to the fullest (or as full as possible, given the ongoing COVID-19 situation) — with travel at the forefront — and there’s no better way to do that than with a strictly leisure vacation.
