In early February, JetBlue announced the name of its new low-cost airline: Breeze Airways. Despite the current worldwide COVID-19 crisis, Breeze Airways continues to encourage job applications on its website, and offers news alerts regarding the state of travel.
JetBlue submitted the new airline’s application to the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration. Once approved, Breeze Airways will be able to begin flight operations.
Once the airline is up and running, routes will focus on underserved locations typically overlooked by major airlines. With a base in Salt Lake City, Utah, final route decisions have yet to be announced.
The airline announced the acquisition of 60 new Airbus A220-300 planes, a popular model for the nation’s larger airlines, scheduled to be delivered in April 2021. Breeze also plans to lease 30 or so Embraer E195 jets from a Brazilian carrier.
Breeze Airways’ first flight may take off as early as the end of 2020, but the majority of routes will debut in early 2021. Check the airline’s website for more information.
