Turkish Airlines and Airbus signed a memorandum of understanding to purchase 25 Airbus A350-900 aircraft in a deal worth around $7.8 billion.
The major agreement was signed at the Élysée Palace in Paris in the presence of the French president Emmanuel Macron and Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“With Turkish Airlines serving more destinations than any other airline around the world, we will be delighted to rely on our new A350 XWB to further develop our major international routes from Turkey,” said İlker Aycı, chairman of the board and the executive committee, Turkish Airlines.
The all-new family of mid-sized, wide-body, long-haul aircraft features the latest in aerodynamic design for optimum efficiency, a 25 percent reduction in fuel burn and emissions and significantly lower maintenance costs. The interiors are spacious, designed for quietness and better ambiance and service.
This order follows a Boeing deal Turkish Airlines announced in September for the purchase of 40 787-9 Dreamliners.
Customers of Star Alliance, like United Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa, will benefit from having yet another option to travel via the world’s newest long-haul jet.
