If you’re traveling to conduct business in Chicago or New York City, you’re in luck: These cities appear to be becoming cheaper for business travelers. First quarter results from travel management company Travel Leaders Corporate shows various business costs in these cities are dropping despite an overall slight uptick in costs for corporate travelers nationwide. Travel Leaders Corporate offers insights into specific cities, showing trends for costs of rental cars and hotels in 25 U.S. cities. Every city on the list saw an increase in various costs, but Chicago and New York both showed drops — dramatic in some categories. For example, both cities saw a 7 percent drop or more in hotel costs. New York, known for high hotel prices, actually saw an 18 percent decrease in its hotel prices, which are now below 2013 averages. In Chicago, business expenditures for hotels declined 7 percent. Prices are going up in other cities, with Miami, Phoenix and Tampa seeing double digit increases in hotel rates. This was in part due to competition from leisure travelers heading to warmer climates in winter months.
