A new report put out by The Economist Intelligence Unit ranks top Asia-Pacific cities on their merits for bleisure travelers. Tokyo tops 26 cities in the region in the new study.

The study surveys cities and scores them out of five possible points. The survey measures the responses of 1,500 business travelers regarding points of travel consideration, including ease of transportation and the availability of consumer goods and services.

The top-ranking cities following Tokyo include Singapore, Sydney, Hong Kong and Melbourne. Rounding out the bottom of the list are Colombo, Hanoi and Manila. Middling cities with three stars include Osaka, Perth and Seoul.

One of the biggest takeaways is the most livable cities in the region, as chronicled by the Economist’s Global Liveability Index, don’t translate well for business travelers looking for bleisure.

The differences between desire in livability and bleisure stem from a number of factors. Bleisure travelers highly value high-quality dining options, historical site and heritage visits and going to art galleries and museums.

“Cities in Asia-Pacific should take note: facilitating leisure experiences for corporate travelers can be the key to differentiating in a crowded business travel market. Some of the top cities in our bleisure barometer are already world leaders in this regard, while others can learn from the best in improving access to the intersection of business and leisure travel in the region,”

The full report, including a complete breakdown of the scoring, can be found online.
