When doing business in a city as dense and busy as Tokyo, it can be difficult finding time to take in local sights and culture. These are just a few of the landmarks you should try to fit into your schedule on your next trip to the Japanese capital.
Fans of religious history and monuments should make an effort to visit Sensō-ji. This site is a monument to the goddess of mercy from Japanese religion and the oldest temple in Tokyo, believed to be completed in 645.
The temple was formerly associated with Buddhism, but, since World War II, it has been independent. The temple can get crowded, so keep that in mind with your sightseeing schedule.
Western travelers familiar with observation towers, find another destination worth visiting in Tokyo. The Tokyo Skytree is the world’s tallest free-standing tower. Functioning as a broadcast tower, restaurant and observation deck, this is a great stopping off point to see as much of Tokyo at once as possible.
If heights give you the heebie-jeebies, take a trip to Ueno Park for an afternoon. The park features plenty of room, including walking trails, a lake where you can rent boats, a zoo and a few museums. A visit to the park gives visitors the chance to see some of Tokyo’s natural beauty and activity options.
Fans of history and government will likely want to stop at the Tokyo Imperial Palace. The palace was the primary residence of the Japanese emperor. The actual destination is park-like and features a number of buildings, museums and administrative offices. Like the other options on this list, guests can tackle this attraction at their leisure.
If you have a little more time, consider visiting the Ghibli Museum. The “Japanese Walt Disney” animation studio has fans all over the world. If you have ever seen one of the studio’s films, it’s easy to see why.
