HX Expeditions just revealed significant refurbishments to two of its most popular smaller ships, MS Fram and MS Spitsbergen. These upgrades reflect the world’s largest and first expedition cruise company’s commitment to delivering the highest-quality service and guest experiences.

MS Fram holds a capacity for up to just 250 guests for an intimate experience. Named after the legendary, 19th-century Norwegian exploration vessel, MS Fram was HX Expeditions’ first purpose-built polar expedition ship and will undergo refurbishments, like adding a new science center slated to include spaces for guests to engage with the expedition experience.

Enhanced dining venues include Aune Restaurant, which will receive improvements to elevate its offerings. The restaurant’s galley will also be updated. Nineteen Arctic Superior cabins will be completely renovated, including updated bathrooms. The ship’s 14 Expedition Grand suites and six Expedition Grand suites will be fully refurbished and will now offer a twin-bed configuration option. All Polar cabins will be upgraded with new bathrooms, while 36 crew cabins will undergo full bathroom refurbishment, along with refreshed sofas and carpets. The ship’s new look will be available to guests starting May 26.

MS Spitsenbergen, with a guest capacity of 220, is also set to receive some enhancements. This ship will boast a new science center, as well as updates to all Polar cabins. The ship’s Explorer Bar will get a refreshed design, and guests will enjoy a new bistro concept when the ship reopens. There will also be refurbished ADA bathrooms. MS Spitsenbergen returns to service April 2.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.

New York City’s Penn Station to Undergo Massive Redevelopment

There are few commuters, residents and tourists who have visited New York City and never included Pennsylvania Station in their travel plans. The city’s Penn Station opened in 1910 as a Beaux-Arts masterpiece designed by McKim, Mead & White, modeled after the Roman Baths of Caracalla from the third century A.D. Of course, there was no resemblance.
