Small luxury cruise line Ponant Cruises launched the first-ever PC2 Polar Class luxury cruise ship, powered by liquefied natural gas and featuring cutting-edge technology — literally — as the ship is designed to navigate through compact ice for polar odysseys.

The ship can reach the Geographic North Pole, complete an Arctic Ocean crossing, discover Greenland’s extreme North East and more.

Ponant is also a pioneer in environmental protection among cruise lines. The Icebreaker features Clean Ship fittings that go above the current industry-standard environmental regulations. Features include zero emissions when in electric hybrid mode, advanced diesel engine technology, compliance with IMO regulation on Sulphur emission levels, compliance with ECA requirements, waste heat recovery system and an advanced waste water treatment system.
