It’s Soho, Tel Aviv style — that fascinating neighborhood around Neve Tzedek and Rothschild Boulevard. The shiny new kid on the block is Al Boutique Hotel, designed by Israeli architect Shay Fogel and housed within a classic 1930s building. Elegant lines and a soothing mix of light and dark woods help to create a mini-oasis within the lively city location. Rates for each of the 11 rooms and suites include complimentary WiFi, daily breakfast at a Tel Aviv café and a walking tour.
While you’re here, relax in the tranquil Garden Patio, or head out to enjoy The Lost Generation, the new exhibition of works by Israeli artist Jechezkiel David Kirszenbaum, on display through Oct. 30 at Beit Hatfutsot Museum of the Jewish People.
Also new — and very, very old: the discovery by archaeologists from the Hebrew University in Tel Hazor of fragments of an ancient Egyptian sphinx bearing an intriguing link to the past. The name of the Egyptian King Mycerinus is inscribed in hieroglyphics. Mycerinus, who presided over Egypt over 4,000 years ago, was involved in the building of the Giza pyramids. Take a road trip to view the collections of stunning archaeological finds in the historic setting of Jerusalem at the Rockefeller Archaeological Museum, Jerusalem’s first antiquities museum.

Apr 17, 2024Amansara Review
It was more than a car journey; it was a transition between worlds. At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
