In a move designed to keep up with passenger demand, the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority is adding a third terminal to Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam.
The new terminal will ease congestion at Terminal 2. Built for a capacity of 1.2 million passengers annually, Terminal 2 handled a passenger load of more than 2 million travelers in 2012.
Phase 1 of the new Terminal 3 is expected to increase airport capacity to approximately 3.5 million passengers annually. Once completed, Phase 2 will add capacity for an additional 2.5 million passengers annually, bringing overall capacity to approximately 6 million.
