Traveling to Japan and worried you’ll do something culturally inappropriate at the sushi bar? Fear not. Tokyo-based Tabimori, Inc. launched SushiUniversity, available to tourists interested in learning all about the finer points of appreciating traditional Edo-style sushi while enjoying time in this vibrant capital city. The fun service includes shuttle transportation between participants’ hotels and featured restaurants, informative discussions about ingredients and what constitutes proper etiquette. The authentic experience is delivered in English and seven other languages, with more choices on the way.
Additionally, a chef’s choice menu (called Omakase) is sent prior to travel, available in 12 languages, and designed to help visitors become familiar with dishes before they actually sample them. Lectures take place at the sushi counter with a chef in attendance, and may include the individual philosophy of the shop being visited, plus related history and sushi lore. From two to seven people can be accommodated per SushiUniversity excursion. Interpreters meet guests at their hotel and accompany them to the restaurant. And, as a special bonus, photography (usually verboten) is allowed.

Imagine a place where the weather is always warm and the sun forever shines upon groves of towering palm trees and unspoiled white-sand beaches, where a vast expanse of turquoise water surrounds you as far as you can see. When I first landed in the Seychelles last spring, I knew I’d discovered a hidden Eden. Known as the Land of Perpetual Summer, the archipelago consists of 115 islands scattered in the western Indian Ocean, north of Madagascar and 1,000 miles east of mainland Africa.
