Singapore Airlines now charges economy-class passengers a fee to reserve a seat in advance.
SIA is one of the few remaining airlines to offer many services free of charge, but as of Jan. 20, economy passengers who buy the cheapest Lite fare will have to pay a fee starting from $5 per sector. Passengers on longer flights will have to pay more for seat selection.
The fee does not apply in some cases:
- Travelers buying the more expensive economy Standard or Flexi tickets
- Travelers who check in online less than 48 hours before departure
- Select loyalty club members
- Families with children under 12 years of age
