Singapore Airlines returns to New York City (JFK) Nov. 9 with its launch of non-stop flights between the Big Apple and Singapore (SIN). An Airbus A350-900 long-range aircraft will service the route, with 42 business-, 24 premium-economy and 187 economy-class seats. Currently, Singapore Airlines is operating non-stop flights to Los Angeles (LAX). The airline will continue to review its operations to the United States and assess demand before reinstating more U.S. flights.
Prior to COVID-19, Singapore Airlines operated non-stop flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco (SFO), Seattle (SEA) and Newark (EWR), as well as Houston (IAH) via Manchester (MAN) and New York via Frankfurt (FRA). The New York flight will operate three times weekly from Singapore Changi Airport, and thrice weekly from New York.
“Singapore Airlines has served the U.S. market for more than 40 years, playing a major role in industry-leading initiatives such as inflight wellness and the debut of the world’s longest flights,” said Lee Lik Hsin, executive vice president, Commercial, Singapore Airlines. “The new JFK non-stop service is an early step in our goal to gradually rebuild our local presence. We are slowly reinstating operations to our traditional gateways as borders reopen, while remaining open to new opportunities for longer-term growth. A full recovery to pre-COVID traffic levels will take time, but we are committed to the American market and will continue to invest in it to ensure we are prepared to meet the travel needs of our customers as market conditions improve.”

As our four-passenger plane prepared to land on a gravely shoreline in Lake Clark National Park, one of the most remote national parks in the United States, accessible only by plane or boat, my excitement grew. Though the flight was scenic and provided a terrific perspective of the vast expanse of this part of Southcentral Alaska, my fellow passengers and I had one thing on our mind — bears!

On a summer stroll around my friend’s Colorado Springs Ivywild neighborhood, a school building was bustling. Odd, at first sight, as it was summer, and school was clearly not in session. But upon further inquiry, I learned the former Ivywild Elementary School, closed in 2009, had been completely reimagined as part of a Colorado Springs Urban Renewal Authority project.
