Singapore Airlines begins flying its Airbus A350-900 plane on the Christchurch route beginning in January. The new plane adds a premium-economy cabin with newer business-class seats.
The service operates daily and is currently flown with a Boeing 777-200ER, which includes the airline’s older, but wider, business-class seat.
The A350-900 product has just 28 inches of width, down from 34 inches on the Boeing plane. However, the Airbus seat has a longer pitch, increased to 78 inches from 76 inches. Both seats are fully lie-flat and configured in a 1-2-1 pattern, providing all-aisle access.
Overall, Airbus’s seats are said to be of higher quality, superior comfort and use of space.
Travelers on the Christchurch route will also have access to premium-economy seating starting in January, which the two-class Boeing plane does not offer.
