Damien O’Malley, a fourth-generation fisherman brought up around the scenic coast of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, recently launched Roundstone Bay & Island Tours to share his love of the region with visitors. Guests can choose from four tours, with private hire available, too. All tours take in the beaches of Gurteen and Dog’s Bay, as well as the deserted island of Inishlacken and Roundstone Bay’s resident dolphins, seals, sunfish, otters and basking sharks. The tours take place on a custom-built, 21-foot-long boat named Benbaun.

The Eco tour, at €100, takes up to five guests on a one-hour trip to soak in views of Roundstone Bay and the nearby islands. The Drop Off & Pick Up tour, also €100, allows up to five guests to journey to Inishlacken. Perfect for family or friends, guests can pack their bags for a day out on the island and choose their own drop-off and pick-up times.

The Landing tour, at €180, consists of a 2.5-hour tour for up to five guests around Roundstone Bay before landing on Inishlacken. Guests of this tour can take their time exploring the island. The fourth tour, the Catch & Cook tour, features a three-hour trip exploring the bay, pulling crab and lobster pots along the way. The boat then pulls into the harbor at Ervallagh, where the skipper prepares and cooks your catch alongside some additional seafood dishes, as well. Guests sit in the seaside garden and enjoy their fresh lunch with a glass of bubbles. The Catch & Cook tour is €450 per person. Book a tour here.

Roundstone Harbor in Connemara lies just one hour from Galway city, which offers a number of accommodations, including the newly opened The Dean Galway. Roundstone alone boasts a wide variety of pubs for drinks and food and bed and breakfasts.

When the Sun Goes Down, the Party Begins on Mykonos

There is something magical about sipping a glass of local wine while watching the sun slip into the Aegean Sea as the afterglow tinges traditional, white-washed Cycladic houses with glorious shades of rose, purple and gold. Ancient Greeks believed Helios, the Sun God, caused sunsets by driving his fiery chariot into the sea. Standing at water’s edge in Mykonos, watching the sky slowly turn from purple to inky black, you almost believe it.

The Ultimate Itinerary in The Islands of Tahiti

The Islands of Tahiti are among the most beautiful and sought-after vacation destinations in the world. The endless images of overwater bungalows with Bora Bora’s majestic peak towering over waters of every shade of blue have an intrinsic pull. But with 118 islands and atolls to explore, there is so much more to this spectacular region of the Pacific.

Cruise Alaska for Awe-Inspiring Adventures to Delight All Ages

I hadn’t even made it to my first cup of coffee when I got an early phone call from my sister, who lives two time zones away. “OMG, Kristy, Patsy Cline came on twice while I was driving the kids to school today,” she laughed. “You know what that means, right?” We both gasped and then instantly began singing the lyrics to “La Bamba,” an inside joke we’d shared since our family’s Alaskan cruise decades ago when we, unintentionally, won the ship’s karaoke contest among a sea of Patsy Cline tributes.

The Lancaster Hotel Review

Located in the heart of Houston’s Theatre District, the recently renovated Lancaster Hotel originally opened in 1926. The classic interior with an abundance of natural light floods the two-story lobby. A shimmering chandelier and elegant marble floors juxtapose nicely with the contemporary art displayed on the salon staircase wall.

Beyond the Beach: See Hawai’i’s Diverse Verdant and Volcanic Landscapes on an Island-Hopping Cruise

Midway Atoll is the end of the Hawai‘ian Islands, literally. This is the ultimate fate of these low, sandy islets ringing a lagoon: Eventually these last remnants of a once large volcanic island will sink beneath the waves, completing a story that began 1,500 miles away. Midway, though not easy to get to, occasionally features in cruise itineraries. Holland America Line’s Westerdam offers a rare chance to glimpse the remotest of all the Hawai‘ian Islands with a scheduled stop in October 2024. You can still see the relics of the famous World War II battle here as well as a million nesting albatrosses and other seabirds.
