In a bid to continue to improve itself as a premier MICE destination, Salt Lake City announced a huge redevelopment project focusing on overhauling the city’s airport. A new convention hotel is also expected to break ground later this year.
The biggest, and first to come, change is the $3.6 billion redevelopment of Salt Lake City International Airport. In 2020, an entirely new airport will serve travelers coming into and leaving Salt Lake City.
The redevelopment comes at a time when the Salt Lake City International Airport began to quickly outgrow its capabilities. The redevelopment will add a new terminal to supplement the high volume of passengers coming through the city.
The airport redevelopment accomplishes this by focusing on replacing obsolete structures with new builds capable of serving many more people.
Airport officials put a lot of thought and consideration into the new terminal’s design. The new terminal will focus on sustainability, efficiency, ease of use and flexibility. The terminal is being introduced in phases to ease the traffic influx.
The terminal is expected to open in 2020 and will increase the volume of passengers who can travel through Salt Lake City.
