Following the discovery of Richard III’s remains under a parking lot in Leicester, England last month, tourism in the county significantly increased. The Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce chief executive Martin Traynor predicts the monarch’s remains could bring a tourism boost of £140 million.

In the last month alone, more than 28,000 people have visited the temporary exhibit on Richard III, with a large majority of visitors from outside the country. The increased spending in shops, pubs and hotels could lead to the addition of 300 jobs or more over time.

A permanent Richard III exhibition is scheduled to open next year near the parking lot where the burial ground of the Plantagenet monarch was uncovered.
