Housed in a former, early 20th-century cotton warehouse, canal-side LEVEN Manchester has a modern, industrial feel to it thanks to exposed brick walls and contemporary furnishings. Opened in December 2022, the hotel is located on the corner of Chorlton and Canal streets, in the city’s vibrant Village neighborhood. Additionally, the property was the only hotel in Manchester to be featured on The London Sunday Times’ list of the 100 Best Places to Stay in the United Kingdom in 2023.
The property’s red brick walls and Crittall windows (recognizable for an elegant black metal frame and horizontal bars, synonymous with Art Deco and Modernism) hold a rich history dating back to Manchester’s industrial past, when the building was first used as a cotton warehouse, and more recently, a brewery and comedy club. Following an extensive interior and exterior revitalization, the 33,000-square-foot property is now a design-centric, 42-room hotel.

The original two-story loading dock of the former warehouse now functions as the impressive hotel entrance. The design and construction team worked with the original Victorian fabric of the building, including exposed brick, vaulted ceilings and cast-iron columns.
The lobby features a brass-topped bar with emerald green scalloped tiles, blackened steel, ceiling-height units and statement lighting for a dramatic entrance. There is also plenty of space to hang out on comfortable green velvet sofas and soft leather armchairs.

A walkway connects the lobby with a day-to-night lounge, perfect for socializing. A large, canteen-style wooden table takes center stage, geared toward coworking, and a corner sofa in turmeric velvet makes for the ideal people-watching perch, sitting under original artwork by British artist Lillie Bernie.
All 42 rooms and suites are unique, with varying sizes, sleek interior touches, oak parquet or timber floors, bespoke furniture, 100 percent natural mattresses by Naturalmat, and Grown Alchemist bathroom amenities. Some rooms feature high ceilings, exposed brickwork and stand-alone bathtubs; others have full kitchens designed like a wet bar, with every appliance needed for cooking. Every room includes a free pair of limited-edition branded socks and complimentary house-made breakfast smoothies.

Serving pastries and snacks from local suppliers, as well as LEVEN’s own blended coffee, the lobby and lounge also offers house-made cocktails, soft drinks and juices. There is also in-room food and beverage service. This spring, the hotel opens Maya, a stunning 4,000-square-foot restaurant space split across three floors, each with its own vibe. These include a canal-side brasserie serving modern European classics and a ground-floor, elegantly designed dining room centered around an ingredient-led, locally sourced and seasonal menu.
Centrally located along Canal Street and a five-minute walk from Piccadilly Station, LEVEN Manchester is perfectly placed in this dynamic flourishing neighborhood with its mix of bars, clubs, restaurants, independent stores, and alfresco drinking and dining. As a thriving LGBTQIA+ community, the Village district celebrates diversity and community spirit. Double occupancy rates in mid-March start at £119 (about $145) per night. On the top floor are impressive penthouses with great views across Canal Street starting at £299. The LEVEN Manchester site is the first in a series of LEVEN lifestyle hotels to include coworking, co-living and retail spaces, with a range of trendy merchandise commissioned for the Manchester opening.

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
