The first five new coaches for the Caledonian Sleeper arrived in Glasgow via the Channel Tunnel in January as part of the Sleeper’s relaunch. Altogether, 75 coaches were ordered from Spain manufacturer CAF.

The new cars will replace the less luxurious British Rail coaches currently in use, dating from the 1980s.

“The Caledonian Sleeper is an iconic rail service recognized in Scotland and across the world. The introduction of new rolling stock with features new to U.K. rail can only enhance its reputation,” said Humza Yousaf, the United Kingdom’s minister for transport and the islands.

The accommodations will include en-suite facilities — not present on the current trains.

Passengers booking a room will be guaranteed solo occupancy unless sharing with a partner.

Predictably, prices rise to match. One-way journey prices are as follows:

• Comfort seats from £45
• Classic rooms (twin or single) from £85 per person
• Club rooms (en-suite) from £125 per person
• Suites (double bed en-suite) from £200 per person

The new cars debut on the Lowlander route linking London Euston with Edinburgh and Glasgow. Later, they will be used on services between London, Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William.
