Tokyo Narita International Airport is installing 72 Auto Bag Drop units in preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The airport has a contract with Sydney-based ICM Airport Technics, which focuses on self-service baggage solutions for airports and airlines. The project will gradually install the Series 7 ABD units in all four terminals.
The Series 7 is a fully automated bag drop with a biometrics component to match a facial scan with the passenger’s passport while checking the bag’s size and weight.
“This is an ideal opportunity for ICM to showcase our technology in Japan,” said Richard Dinkelmann, CEO, ICM Group.
ICM says it has sold more than 1,100 Auto Bag Drop units to 39 airport terminals around the world, including several in the Asia-Pacific region: Singapore Changi Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Auckland Airport.
