With so much to offer, Mexico City should be on every traveler’s bucket list. Featuring multiple UNESCO World Heritage sites, dozens of museums, a vibrant culinary scene and beautiful green spaces, Mexico City has been an up-and-coming destination for the past several years. The city of more than 9 million continuously finds new ways to attract both leisure and business travelers.
GETTING THERE
Benito Juárez International Airport is located approximately eight miles from the city center. For taxi service, head to an authorized taxi booth marked “Taxi” before exiting the airport. Only accept service from staff members wearing bright yellow jackets or bibs labeled “Taxi Autorizado.” Boletos (tickets) range in price depending on the size of the car and the zone to which you travel.
GETTING AROUND
Opt to take public transportation rather than attempt to drive in this hectic, densely populated city. Good options include the Metro, the city’s subway system (about 39 cents a ticket); RTP bus system (approximately $2, no matter the destination); electric trolley buses (about 31 cents per trip); and ECOBICI, a bike-sharing service offering more than 6,000 bikes at 444 stations throughout the city (users register with the program and pay around $26 for unlimited 45-minute journeys within a year; tourists can purchase a seven-day card for about $20).
9-5
Camino Real Polanco México
If you’re looking for a hotel with meeting space that also offers a convenient location and lush accommodations, look no further than the Camino Real Polanco México. Located only a 30-minute drive from the airport, this 5-star hotel includes meeting space for groups of 10 to more than 4,000.
Hotel Habita
At the Hotel Habita’s Lobby Restaurant, Executive Chef Fernando Maya turns out a simple yet delicious menu for your power breakfasts. The food is what one would expect from an upscale but casual Mexican eatery — eggs rancheros, cecina and enfrijoladas — and the atmosphere is just as simple and chic.
Reforma 500
Located at the Four Seasons Hotel Mexico, D.F., Reforma 500 is a popular spot for business luncheons or dinners. Lunch through the week is served noon–6 p.m., and dinner is offered 6–11 p.m. Give their signature dish, the short ribs with hoja santa and guajillo chili essence, a taste. You can dine either in an elegantly decorated indoor space or on an adjoining patio which seats 60.
AFTER 5
Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso
The Historic Center of Mexico City offers many museums you can find open until 5 p.m., but if you’re looking for something as an option after the workday ends, head to the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, an architectural attraction and museum from the early 18th century, built by the Jesuits and later used as a school and military post throughout history. The museum holds important cultural and artistic exhibitions and stays open until 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday.
Jules Basement
This new reservations-only cocktail bar, with its white-and-black décor and tabletops propped atop giant skulls, is not your average place to grab drinks after dinner, but you’ll be glad you did. With weekly jazz performances and cocktail sessions themed after fan favorites like Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire, your evening will definitely be an experience to write home about.
Paxia
Paxia is a culinary creation from one of Mexico’s hottest chefs, Daniel Ovadia. Traditional ingredients with a contemporary and innovative twist make his menu stand out. Try a tasting menu to get a fuller grasp of Ovadia’s creative talents. The restaurant even features a connected shop where you can purchase other culinary treats.
