Marriott’s recent partnership with Starwood Hotels brought a handful of changes to two of the brands under the Starwood umbrella: Aloft and Element Hotels.

The first change to take effect at Aloft properties will be an overhaul of the brand’s culinary direction. Food menus will feature fresher, healthier and more local ingredients. Guests will be able to order food at touch-screen kiosks where chefs will be identified by a signature emoji.

At Element Hotels, the nature-inspired hotel brand that prides itself on offering eco-friendly amenities and services, select properties will incorporate communal living spaces for guests that will encourage connecting with other patrons. These areas will have kitchens, dining tables and lounge areas shared with a certain block of rooms. This initiative will foster collaboration among business travelers and families traveling together, essentially bringing the amenities of home to the hotel.
