As I put the finishing touches on this month’s Neighborhoods article, I fondly remembered my trip last fall to Turkey — a truly fantastic country to visit — as news broke of the tragic attack at İstanbul’s Atatürk Airport in June. Our July issue with an airport update on IST had just printed. All of us at Global Traveler were heartbroken by the news, and we stand by Turkey, as we did with Brussels, Paris and other areas, by continuing to share our travel stories from these destinations. Turn to page 64 for more on my time in Cappadocia. The devastating news that seems all too familiar these days only strengthens my resolve to see and understand as much of this world as I can.

On a lighter note, as we journey around the globe, unexpected issues always arise. Hopefully, there’s a silver lining — or in my case, a good laugh. On a recent trip to Dallas, sales and marketing manager Olivia Falcione and I arrived late and tired from one day of meetings, ready to rest for the next equally busy day. We’d come from Miami; and when we went to pick up our rental car at the Dallas airport, the company thought we still had our car in Miami. As Olivia tried to rectify the situation by phone, I waited in line to pick up a car as the lights shut out and I was the last customer at the desk. With barely any cars left, I took whatever was available. Let me tell you, Olivia and I presented quite a sight driving around Dallas to our business meetings . . . in a bright yellow Mustang!
