I hope you enjoy my golf column this month focusing on a recent outing hosted by Inside Access from Chase. As a holder of several JPMorgan Chase credit cards (the United MileagePlus Club Card from Chase and the Ritz-Carlton Rewards Credit Card from Chase), I was able to attend this once-in-a-lifetime special event. The outing at Alpine Country Club in New Jersey was a big hit with fellow cardholders, and we were thrilled to have Tiger Woods’ coach, Hank Haney, there to offer tips. As I pen this letter, I am reading Haney’s book, The Big Miss, which he signed and distributed at the event. I was taken aback by Haney’s patience with each golfer as he analyzed our swings. A true educator!

What can I say about the Global Traveler Wines on the Wing survey? Eunice Fried brings her magic for the 12th year, and GT continues to be the only U.S. publication to survey the world airlines’ business- and first-class wine offerings. We held the survey at the hip new INNSIDE New York NoMad, a perfect property in a wonderful NYC location.

In June we were all devastated by the terrorist attack in İstanbul. So many of the Global Traveler and Trazee Travel team have been to İstanbul for business and pleasure and love the people and the culture. We are sickened by these attacks but, like our friends in Turkey, we have resolve. Editor in chief Kimberly Krol writes about Cappadocia in this issue; although the executive team discussed moving the article, we all felt it was best to keep it in the August lineup to encourage and support a destination and culture we all enjoy and will continue to visit.

Turkish Airlines is a strong and powerful carrier that has received high marks from both our reader survey and our editorial team. The carrier and the Turkish Tourism Office are like family. When family members are injured, we do not turn away but embrace, encourage and support them. This is what we will do with Turkey, Turkish Airlines and all our friends in that country. Remember, the tenets of Ataturk were to establish a secular state. Turkey offers many lovely areas to visit, from Roman ruins to beautiful beaches.
