JetBlue announced last month it will now offer free WiFi, live television and movies to every passenger onboard every one of its flights. It’s a first for the airline industry.

The airline says it completed a three-year upgrade plan of its entire fleet to include its Fly-Fi in-flight WiFi service. No other airline currently offers such wide-ranging services free of charge to all passengers.

The airline has broadband-quality internet access on its flights for no additional charge to passengers. Most airlines charge for the use of on-board WiFi, which also usually prohibits bandwidth-demanding activities like streaming video.

Travelers can connect to Fly-Fi as soon as they are on board, and can use it until the plane lands. Other airlines offer WiFi only while the flight is at cruising altitude.

“It’s 2017, and our customers expect to be connected everywhere, whether that be from the comfort of their sofa or 35,000 feet above it,” said Jamie Perry, vice president of marketing, JetBlue.

JetBlue’s in-flight entertainment system has 36 channels of free DirecTV on Embraer E190 and Airbus A320 planes and more than 100 channels on A321 planes, plus more than 100 channels of free SiriusXM radio. The airline’s A321 planes also have touchscreen TVs.
