InterContinental Hotels Group is set to double its number of rooms in Thailand as part of a major expansion and partnership with Asset World Corporate, an asset management group.

The development expands IHG’s portfolio in Thailand by more than 1,200 rooms and begins with IHG signing the 306-room InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping.

The brand plans to double its portfolio in the next three–five years.

The first property in the plan, InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping, has been a staple of Chiang Mai hospitality for more than 30 years. This property will re-open its doors in 2021 after a conversion and continue expanding through 2022.

InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping is located near the famous Chiang Mai Night Bazaar and a number of other attractions. The hotel will also feature a full-service spa, six food and drink venues and more than 3,600 square metres of event space.

Thailand is already a strong market for IHG. The operator houses 29 hotels across six brands, with 30 more hotels in development. IHG did not give any more details on the extended timeline for the opening or conversion of new hotels in Thailand.
