Iberia added a premium-economy class as of May 1 on certain flights. Passengers can now indulge in a slight upgrade from economy on routes from Madrid (MAD) to Chicago (ORD), New York (JFK) and Bogota (BOG). Starting in June, the airline’s Mexico service will follow, and its Miami (MIA) and Boston (BOS) flights will launch the class in August and September respectively.
The new seats provide 20 percent more space between rows, wider seats and 40 percent more recline compared to economy class. The new class also has an adjustable headrest and foot rest, plus a 12-inch HD touchscreen, compared to nine inches in economy.
Passengers will be allowed priority check-in and boarding with two pieces of luggage.
Plenty of other additional features entice flyers to upgrade: noise-canceling headphones, connection ports for electronic devices, a welcome drink, table linen and an amenity kit, plus a gourmet menu.
A total of 21 existing long-haul aircraft (Airbus A340-600s and A330-300s) will be retrofitted with the seat over the next two years, while 16 new A350s, due for delivery from 2018, will be factory fitted with the product.
