Car-rental company Hertz partners with airport security company Clear to allow its premium-level customers to quickly check out rental vehicles.
Hertz Gold Plus Rewards members enrolled in Clear can link their accounts, which allows them to use facial recognition portals to identify themselves and leave with their cars. The system allows drivers to pull up to a Clear portal in their rental vehicle to have their face scanned while remaining in the vehicle.
The idea is to speed up the check-out process. Hertz claims this new system takes less than 30 seconds.
The new system is currently in place at Hertz’s rental car center at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The company will add 40 more locations in 2019, including Los Angeles International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport and San Francisco International Airport.
For its part, Clear offers Hertz Gold Plus Rewards members trial membership for one to four months, depending on their status with Hertz, plus a discounted Clear membership rate of $129.
