Heathrow Airport marked its busiest November ever for passenger traffic, seeing a total 5.72 million people pass through its doors that month.

That number is up 2.5 percent over the previous year, with strong growth in emerging markets like Mexico, China and the Middle East. These saw growth figures of more than 8 percent.

By December, the year-to-date passenger figures for Heathrow were up 0.7 percent over 2015. The airport says larger, quieter and more efficient planes are driving the growth in passenger numbers. The airport continues to run at or near full capacity.

Heathrow also saw a 4.4 percent increase in cargo volumes in November, led by Middle Eastern, East Asian and Latin American markets, increasingly important trade markets for British exporters.
