Hapag-Lloyd Cruises recently announced its 2025/2026 Antarctic season will include a 22-day expedition into the rarely visited Weddell Sea for the first time in the company’s history. The extended route will sail on HANSEATIC spirit.
“Our Antarctic expeditions are designed for travelers who seek profound experiences, delivered with world-class comfort and led by experts in the field,” said Isolde Susset, managing director, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. “These voyages invite reflection, discovery, and a deep connection to nature’s most awe-inspiring frontiers.”

The Weddell Sea voyage will explore the eastern part of the Antarctic Peninsula, known for dense pack ice and towering table icebergs. The area’s history includes landings at Paulet and Devil Islands, the 1903 Nordenskjöld expedition and its large Adelie penguin colonies. Hapag-Lloyd’s route retraces some of those historic moments while offering intensive wildlife viewing and Zodiac excursions.
HANSEATIC spirit and HANSEATIC inspiration operate on all Antarctic routes; both small expedition ships feature cutting-edge technology and the highest ice class for passenger vessels. All itineraries are conducted in both English and German on HANSEATIC inspiration.
