Seoul transportation services created a new — and practical — way for locals to get around the capital. The Han River Bus launched its inaugural voyage in September 2025 to minimize urban congestion by redirecting traffic away from city roads and subway lines.

Designed as a public service rather than a way for tourists to catch views of the city, all fare prices for the 12 vessels are approximately $2.20 and connect seven piers along a 19.2-mile-long stretch between Magok and Jamsil. A full run takes roughly two hours, and travelers can take advantage of riverside piers doubling as social hubs with cafés and eateries, including the Han River’s famous instant noodles and fried chicken.

Each pier offers something unique, such as surrounding garden-style rest areas, seasonal festivals and cultural attractions. Visitors can enjoy free exhibitions and large-scale media art on display at Ttukseom Pier, and everything from theater to musicals on the Water-Reflection Stage near Yeouido Pier.

Beyond the piers, travelers can take advantage of year-round cultural programming and recreational sports facilities at Han River Park.

As routes expand and ridership steadily climbs, the river further becomes integrated into local life, rather than just scenery for the citizens of Seoul.
