Arizona’s capital and most populous city basks beneath the sun year-round, boasting Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses, major sports teams, luxury spas and lively nightclubs. The city lies within the Salt River Valley along the northern reaches of the Sonoran Desert, making for dramatic mountain views and vast desert landscapes beyond. The city itself comprises 15 urban villages, many tracing roots to historical communities. Despite brutally hot summers, various experiences and sites in and around the city combat the heat, such as tubing and kayaking on the Salt River, swimming in any of the city’s six lakes, taking a moonlight hike, or floating in one of a number of the city’s upscale hotel pools.
