Go Underground In Montréal

Jul 17, 2015
Jump

While there is plenty to see and do aboveground, make time to visit what’s hidden below your feet, too. Montréal has one of the most extensive underground networks in the world, with almost 20 miles to explore.

Walkways and tunnels link eight metro stations, five train stations, 63 buildings, 10 major hotels, 37 movie theaters and exhibition halls, and 10 university buildings. In all, visitors can access more than 2,000 businesses here, including dozens of restaurants and shops. Check out a piece of the Berlin Wall given by Berlin to Montréal for its 350th anniversary, located in the Centre de commerce mondial de Montréal, or strap on ice skates at one of the three rinks underground. Montréal, in general, is a huge booster of public art, and the underground is no different. Visitors will see lots of installations and artwork throughout the system.
