Fully Recline in Economy Seats From Geven

May 27, 2016
Daily

Soon first-class benefits like fully-reclining seats may brush past the class-separating curtain and expand to economy passengers. Geven, an Italian airplane seat manufacturer, introduced the Piuma Sofa, an economy row of airplane seats that easily convert into a bed. In the prototype version, the armrests rise and the convertible headrests are removed. The headrests can be reattached to the base of the seat as an extension of the seat. Rows of three and four seats quickly become beds for passengers who wish to recline and enjoy a nap on their long-haul flight. For this to be possible, an airline would need to have a substantial number of unsold seats on specific flights. The airline would then offer these empty rows as sofa beds for purchase for up to $200. Passengers can also wait until they board before deciding if they would like to purchase a space in one of these beds. Although the likelihood of obtaining one of these beds may be slim, the idea of fully reclining and sleeping on a flight for an economy price is now a possible dream. Newsletter sign-up
