The hotel is said to be frequented by the spirit of Jesse Driskill, who constructed the property in 1886. The scent of cigar smoke in public spaces allegedly announces his presence. At beachside Hotel Lucine in Galveston, travelers can enjoy fall celebrations including the Harvest Moon Regatta on Oct. 17. This annual offshore sailboat race can be viewed from comfy chairs along the Seawall. On Oct. 19 and 20, ARToberFEST gets underway with a juried fine art festival, live music and plenty of great food set amidst shops and galleries along Postoffice Street. Later, Oct. 25 and 26, the Islander Oktoberfest provides a setting of live music; dancing (yes, that includes a Chicken Dance competition); food vendors; and a Biergarten of great brews, including pumpkin beers from some of the island’s own craft breweries.
