Events DC and the National Cherry Blossom Festival announce the 2014 National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade, nationally syndicated to thousands of viewers across the country in addition to thousands of expected spectators.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off the tourist season each spring. Spanning three weeks and four weekends, it is a celebration of arts, culture and nature. This year’s theme will be “Step Into Spring,” and will commemorate the 102nd anniversary of the gift of the trees from Tokyo to Washington, D.C.
The parade will be held April 12, 2014 from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. Performers include DC’s Step Afrika! and Miss America Nina Davuluri. Up to four local singers will be chosen to perform at the inaugural Sing Into Spring competition, and celebrity entertainers, giant helium balloons, floats, marching bands and specialty units will join the lineup.
