A tour company founded with the goal of helping women leap beyond their own perceived limits? That’s exactly what founder Niki Koubourlis planned when she founded her Colorado-based adventure tourism company Bold Betties. What started as a Colorado meet-up between women who shared a love for the outdoors grew into an outlet for ladies craving outdoor adventure with a strong social aspect.

Today, Bold Betty chapters exist across the country. Travel itineraries feature domestic and international group adventures, such as Night Ice Climbing in Lake George, Colo.; Hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu; and Best of Iceland, a seven-day trip that takes in glacier hikes, whale watching, waterfalls and lava caves. Clinics in climbing techniques, canyoneering and other activities are offered, as well as a social media community where members can exchange tips, comment on experiences, plus dish on gear and clothing.

The website offers advice on packing and what kind of luggage you’ll need if, say, you’re trekking by mule. The company even offers adventure gear at rental rates so women who’d like to try out a new sport or activity can do so without making a huge monetary investment.
