Renowned tenor Alfredo Krauss is celebrated on his home island of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Feb. 19–June 8, as part of the annual Alfredo Kraus Opera Festival. Hosted at the opulent Teatro Pérez Galdós, the program includes several first performances of operas and other stagings that feature famous Spanish and international musicians.

Also this month on the islands, the European Theatre Fair for Children takes place Feb. 17–22, in Gijón. While performances are definitely geared toward entertaining children, there’s plenty for family members of all ages to enjoy. Held in various theaters throughout the city, the festival highlights new works, with supplementary lectures, exhibitions and other educational elements.

In Lleida, the International Animated Film Festival will be held Feb. 21–24. Screenings take place citywide, including the Principal Theatre. Workshops, presentations and alternative shows are part of the programming. For more film, the Point of View, Navarre International Festival of Documentary Cinema will be held in Pamplona, March 11–16. Feature-length and short films, retrospectives, tributes and cinematographic training are part of the fun.

Later in March, the Malaga Festival, Films in Spanish runs from March 15–24; while the LPA Film Festival – Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival will be held March 22–31, headquartered at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus.
