During the 2013 harvest season, visitors to the vineyards of Alsace can help celebrate the Alsatian Wine Route’s 60th year and learn firsthand about traditional wine-making techniques by taking part in activities such as cellar tours, a grape picker’s lunch and estate wine tastings. Not quite enough? Watch a pressing session, tour the vineyards by bicycle and meet the wine producers themselves over a glass of wine.
At day’s end, rest your head on a pillow in a cozy, historic chateau in Wissembourg. Two-night, three-day stays in the traditional tavern ambience of Hotel Au Cygne includes accommodations in a standard room, daily breakfast, two dinners featuring typical local dishes, a tour and wine tasting at Cleebourg’s wine cellars, one bottle of wine per couple, access to the Cleebourg wine-making path for a self-guided ramble, entrance to Fleckenstein Castle, and a self-tour of Wissembourg. Rates per person, based on double occupancy, begin at €174.50 (about $236).
