Carnival Cruise Lines to Add Ancient Sport to Activity List

Carnival Cruise Line officially announced the inclusion of the sport of bocce on board 18 ships in its fleet, including the Carnival Glory, Carnival Miracle and Carnival Magic, offering yet another great activity for Carnival Cruise guests.

The ancient Italian sport, similar to lawn bowl, is traditionally played on a court 60 feet long and 12 feet wide. The size and bulk of the courts previously made it difficult to have on cruise ships and other confined spaces, until New Zealand sports company Packaworld’s creation of a smaller inflatable court called “Packabocce.” The innovative court is making it easier for people to enjoy the classic game in untraditional spaces, including cruise ship decks and other public facilities.

Joey Colby-Begovich, manager of entertainment experience, Carnival Cruise Line, said, “We are really excited to offer bocce across our fleet. Bocce is a fantastic ice-breaker and can be enjoyed by guests of all ages. The response from our guests has been wonderful.”

The convenience of the Packabocce court and the accessibility of the game to all people regardless of athletic ability is what led Carnival Cruises to add the game to their list of regular on-board activities. The game provides a fun and relaxing way for cruise guests to get outside and socialize while enjoying recreational competition.

Carnival Cruise guests on ships offering bocce can check their onboard activity schedules for when and where a bocce game is being held, and partake in the ancient sport.
