New Orleans Louis Armstrong International Airport long languished behind other airports in the region in many areas, but signs are pointing to several improvements to benefit travelers to the city and residents.
Last month, local civic and business leaders announced plans for a new, non-stop service to and from London’s Heathrow Airport.
The new route will be inaugurated on March 27, 2017, around the time of the annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. British Airways will fly four flights per week between New Orleans and London.
The flights will leave London at 3 p.m., and arrive in New Orleans at 7:30 p.m. Flights leaving New Orleans will depart at 9:40 p.m., and arrive in London at around noon the following day. British Airways will deploy its new 214 passenger Boeing 787 Dreamliners for the route.
A New Orleans businessman involved in the delegation to open the route said the new flights could bring around 1,500 and 2,000 jobs to the New Orleans hospitality industry.
New Orleans also recently gained flights to Frankfort (FRA) and to Panama City, Panama (PTY).
