Yardley Farmers Market Haul

by Yasser Ogando

Jul 29, 2020

Yes, I know. This might feel like the 100th time you’re reading about food from me, but hear me out — or rather read me out …

After watching Netflix’s original series Street Food: Latin America, my boyfriend and I started (yet another) bucket list of cities we’d like to visit, but this time we included the names of the places we hope to go to enjoy the local and traditional cuisine.

After finishing a few episodes, we were inspired to cook a delicious meal and escape in the flavors; luckily, our fridge was full of freshly picked produce from the farmers market, so we made some amazing stuffed zucchini boats with lean ground turkey and lots of veggies. Not quite the same as a Brazilian feijoada, but amazing nonetheless.

We can’t deny how tasty vegetables and fruits are when they are in season. We have made the commitment to support these markets and reap all the health benefits of adding fresh produce to our diets. One of the markets we’ve visited twice this month is the Yardley Farmers Market in Buttonwood Park. The market is open every Saturday 9 a.m.–12 p.m. with a blocked window for seniors and those with underlying health issues and pre-orders/pickups for the first 30 minutes.

Besides offering pre-ordering and specific times for everyone to enjoy the market, the amazing vendors and the products, one of the things I like the most is each week there are different vendors (some are there every Saturday), so you get to buy from and support your local favorites while discovering new vendors to patronize. I am personally so pleased with the jar of raw honey we got from Keystone Colonies Beekeeping Co., with the freshest produce found at the Love Grows tent and the flavorful Kombucha from Noble Earth.

What is your go-to local farmers market and what wonderful dishes have the products inspired you to create?
