First thing that comes to mind when you think of October? Halloween, of course. Well, for me, it is one of the most fun times of the year. It’s not only a time to dust off neon-colored wigs, but it also means Día de los Muertos and Halloween-themed events.
If you’ve seen the movie Coco, you have an idea of how beautiful Día de Los Muertos is. I usually like visiting Hollywood Forever Cemetery for the occasion, one of L.A.’s most historic places. They hold one of the largest and most fun Day of the Dead celebrations. This year, though, I decided to enjoy more of my neighborhood, so I took to Long Beach and enjoyed its eighth annual Día de Los Muertos.
Another event I really enjoyed this year was Knott’s Berry Farms’ Knott’s Scary Farm event with creepy mazes. They had a beautiful display of giant alibrijes. You know those beautiful, brightly colored animal wooden sculptures you see when you visit Oaxaca or are at any Mexican airport? Knott’s had an awesome display themed around Día de Los Muertos.
