’Tis the Season

Now that Halloween is over, it’s time to start thinking about the holiday season! I am excited for this year to bring some joy into our lives despite this rough time we are in.

My favorite part of the season is the Christmas lights people put up outside; I love driving around and looking at them. There are a couple of houses around me that go all out, and we love driving by multiple times. My family puts our decorations up early. In fact, my mom asked my dad to put up the Christmas decorations the other day — might be just a little too early, but I won’t complain.

If you are reading this and thinking, “Wow, she’s skipping right over Thanksgiving with all this Christmas talk,” don’t worry; I’m not. This past weekend, my family did a pre-Thanksgiving dinner because my aunt is a traveling nurse and will be working in Florida over Thanksgiving, unable to come home. I’m happy we did this so the whole family could be together, and I don’t know if I will be able to eat on Thanksgiving because I’m getting my tonsils out the Monday prior, so it’s nice I will still be able to have a taste.

I also can’t wait to start watching Christmas movies, including the ones on Hallmark Channel, even though they all end the same way and have basically the same plot. They still bring us joy!

Even though this holiday season might look and feel different, I am excited to spend time with family and enjoy the holidays.

The Argosaronic Islands Are Calling

The Saronic or Argo Saronic Islands of Greece call travelers to explore its seven small islands and islets brimming with history, natural sites and more. With most easily accessible by boat, the islands’ proximity to ports of Athens make the Saronic Islands an ideal destination for those preferring shorter boat rides. In fact, trips from Athens ports to the islands take only between 10 minutes and two hours, depending on the island you choose, making them perfect for day or weekend trips. From Piraeus port, you can access Hydra, Spetses, Aegina and Poros directly. Come explore these stunning islands with us and find the inspiration to plan your next trip to these islands. Hydra Hydra town curves around a slope overlooking the Argosaronic Gulf like an amphitheater and is considered one of the most romantic destinations in Greece. Most unique to the island is its lack of vehicles. People on the island get around on mules and donkeys as well as water taxis, making for a peaceful and laid-back day. Hydra lies a two-hour ferry ride from Piraeus port in Athens.

Hotel Rochechouart Offers a Taste of 1920s Parisian Love and Art in Montmartre

Paris has lots of modern, newly built hotel towers, but it may be better to find a historic property, well cared for, a 5-minute walk to Quartier-Pigalle and with a view of Basilica of Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre from your window. Walk around the 9th arrondissement, sample the bars and cafés, and make time for sleeping or kissing.

Alligators, Tarzan and the Creature from Black Lagoon in Wakulla Springs, Florida

Close to the side of my tour boat — make that very close — a mother alligator rests in the reedy shallows of the Wakulla Springs shoreline, her long, prehistoric-looking nose pointed in my direction. If she thinks I’m going to bother her fleet of small offspring, also visible near the shore, she is mistaken. I’m too busy looking for any relatives of Tarzan, or for the 1954 cult movie monster Creature from the Black Lagoon who might be lurking in the trees.
