This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit Edward W. Bok Vocation School, an enormous historic school in Philadelphia slated to become the city’s largest creative community space. The long-vacant National Register property opened its doors earlier this month to give guests a glimpse of the dynamic multi-use space the project’s developers, Scout Ltd., envision for its transformation. The first of many renovations for the 340,000-square-foot building involved the opening of Philadelphia’s newest pop-up restaurant, perched eight stories above the city on an expansive terrace. Le Bok Fin, named after the original cooking school and student-run café at the school, offers incredible skyline views of Philadelphia and the accompanying photography and Instagrams, as well as delicious craft brews, wine and French-inspired fare, through Sept. 13. Since its opening last week, my boyfriend and I have visited twice to support the neighborhood-changing project and enjoy the amazing views. The vantage point from Bok is unlike any sky-high view of the city I’ve seen. We stood at the edge of the balcony, previously closed for nearly 15 years, and were completely mesmerized by the sight. The clear vista encompasses the heart of the Philadelphia skyline, filled with the many colors of its row homes, impressive skyscrapers like One Liberty, the Ben Franklin Bridge and landmarks such as Independence Hall and City Hall. With so many exciting plans for Building Bok on the horizon, including the opening of five roof terraces for public use featuring potential unique facilities like a rooftop cinema and outdoor beer terraces, I’m sure we’ll be visiting several more times. — Monique Barrett, eFlyer editor/associate editor
