My 88-year-old father is in great shape, but with health clubs temporarily closed, it’s hard for him to exercise properly. He loved going to his health club to walk the track, use the hot tub and swim, his favorite form of exercise. My sisters and I started looking at other options for him.
Master Spas is a company located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, about two hours from my dad. As the largest swim spa manufacturer in the world and one of the largest portable spa and hot tub manufacturers in the country, we figured it was the best place to start.
In 1996, Bob Lauter and his team of investors bought the spa division of a local company. Master Spas went from producing five spas a day to as many as 90 a day at peak operation.

The popularity of water workouts propelled the Swim Spa to be the fastest-growing line for Master Spas. The Swim Spa allows easier exercise with the buoyancy reducing pressure on the body. Master Spas has two different lines of swim spas. Together, The Michael Phelps Swim Spas and the H2X Swim Spas have 15 different models. The MP Momentum Deep Swim Spa is a hot tub on one side and a swim spa on the other. This seems to match my dad’s needs best.
My dad’s home has a large patio which we want to convert into a four-season room with the swim spa as the centerpiece. My dad will be able to get his exercise in the water, the way he likes it, all year. It will be the perfect solution, and the whole family can enjoy it on our visits, too.
