Avis Rent a Car announced the company is transforming 50,000 vehicles in its fleet to fully connected cars by 2018. This means the cars will be outfitted with technology that expedites the rental experience for customers during pick-up and drop-off by providing Avis with real-time access to vehicle information. Employees are able to determine a car’s maintenance needs, fuel consumption and mileage readings at the start and end of each rental.
“This investment will bring the total of connected cars in the Avis fleet to nearly 100,000,” Arthur Orduna, chief innovation officer, Avis Budget Group, said in a statement. “It will also ensure that we remain at the forefront of our industry and will bring us one step closer to realizing what we believe is the future of car rental for our customers.”
Customers who rent a connected vehicle are able to use one-touch returns and receive instant email receipts. They also have the convenience of locking and unlocking the car’s doors and flashing the vehicle’s headlights from the company’s mobile app.
